About Me

John Schuring, PhD, PE, professor of civil and environmental engineering at NJIT, holds several U.S. patents for developing methods of treating polluted soil. He has consulted with engineering firms as an expert in pile foundations, differential settlement and slope stability of buildings. He has worked as an engineer for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Energy and the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers; a member of engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi; and a member of the New York Academy of Science.

Education

  • Stevens Institute of Technology, B.E., 1974.
  • University of Alaska, M.C.E., 1977.
  • Stevens Institute of Technology, Ph.D., 1987.

Courses I Teach

Not teaching any courses this semester

Research Interests

In-situ remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater, including development of a new patented soil treatment process known as pneumatic fracturing which has advanced to full-scale commercialization, Reconnaissance site evaluation using engineering geomorphology, And deep foundations.

Current Research

Integrating pneumatic fracturing with other in-situ technologies including bioremediation, reactive dechlorination, vitrification, and ultrasound.
