Mr. Dorman´s career in the professions spans more than 50 years. His career has been distinguished by continuous professional growth as well as continuous growth in the size and diversity of the operations he has managed. From project engineering positions in state and local government, through ownership of his own civil engineering firm, to his position as head of one of the largest groups of architectural-engineering firms, Dorman has exhibited a unique ability to supervise the architectural-engineering design of multidisciplinary projects of worldwide significance.
He is also well known as an analyst whose expertise encompasses the national, regional, and local levels of the interfaces between governmental policy and public works design, construction, financing, and management. In 2002–04 he chaired the Committee on Business Strategies for Public Capital Investment for the National Research Council of the National Academies.
Mass transit, bridges, tunnels, dams, highways, pipelines, ports and harbors, airports, commercial buildings, wastewater treatment plants, and military and industrial installations have been completed under Dorman´s leadership, as well as an array of educational, justice, and medical facilities. Many of these projects have been very large and one-of-a-kind or first-of-a-kind installations requiring special heavy construction technology.
