The versatile CEE Faculty and Staff conduct theoretical and applied research addressing many contemporary problems of technology and society.  Nearly $3 million in research grants conducted for a number of public and private sponsors are active or recently completed.  CEE Department research can be grouped into the following focus areas:

This faculty group has a carved out a strong research ‘niche’ in the areas of traffic analysis, safety issues, and regional transportation planning, with a special strength in computer simulation and modeling.  Projects are also underway in the area of transportation security and disaster routing.

Researchers: Chien, Daniel, Lee, Liu, and Spasovic
Sponsors: USDOT, FHWA, NJDOT, NJ Transit, and Greyhound

The CEE Faculty conducts research on a wide variety of environmental topics including surface chemistry, environmental systems modeling, water and wastewater treatment, site remediation, environmental impact analysis and context sensitive design.

Researchers: Axe, BoufadelDing, Dresnack, Hsieh, Marhaba, Meegoda, OlenikSchuring, and Zhang.
Sponsors: USEPA, NSF, USDOA, US Army Corps of Engineering, USDoD, USDoE, AWWARF, NJDEP, and DuPont

This faculty group mainly focuses on research to improve infrastructure materials and design methods, including very early strength concrete, bridge structures, pipeline corrosion, and noise walls.  Structural modeling for seismic retrofitting and structural hardening is also underway.

Researchers: Adams, BandeltKaraaKononMeegodaSaadeghvaziri, Saigal, and Wecharatana
Sponsors: NSF, NJDOT, UMDMJ, Sika Corporation, and PRM Engineering

Our Geospatial faculty are active in the areas of Geomatics and GIS applications in transportation systems, as well as remote sensing for environmental analysis.

Researchers: Bagheri, Chien
Sponsors: NASA, NOAA, and NJDOT
